Position Description:
Your work schedule will be every other Saturday and Sunday from 8:30AM to 3:00PM plus pre-scheduled statutory holidays. This is a six and a half hour workday less an unpaid 30 minute meal break daily. You also have two paid 15 minute breaks to take at your discretion based on your workload. The payable hours of service will be 6 hours per shift. Payroll is bi-weekly. Extra paid hours of service for vacations, sick days and leave may be required with as much notice as possible. We make every attempt to preschedule this extra work. The above line has regularly scheduled shifts at May Court Hospice. 

Key Responsibilities:
The job includes, but is not limited to hospice building cleanliness and residence area full room cleaning inclusive of infection control in: residence suites, residence suite washrooms, kitchens, public washrooms, common areas, main halls, closets etc.

The successful candidate will posses the following qualifications: 
Experience:
  • At least 6-months experience in commercial or institutional housekeeping 

Certificates:
  • Current certificate or the ability to pass required WHMIS and Ladder Training within Hospice Care Ottawa timelines

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals
  • Awareness of accessibility principles and fire safety 
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, crouch, kneel, climb ladders, reach over their head and reach to the floor, operate a walk-behind snow blower (or be willing to learn), and lift up to 40 lbs
  • Ability and willingness to participate in ongoing education in hospice cleaning practices
  • Ability to follow all health & safety practices when working
  • Ability to work in a palliative care environment
  • Ability to work around clients and families in a community setting
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Awareness of Occupational Health & Safety
  • Ability to travel to both hospice residences

Other:
  • Bilingualism an asset; English is required

  1. Quantitative and measurable results expected.

  • Ensures all cleaning is performed following Hospice Care Ottawa’s cleaning practices
  • Ensures assigned duties are fully completed each shift
  • Follows all health & safety practices including the proper wearing and use of PPE’s while in the performance of duties
  • Works in a manner that demonstrates health & safety awareness 
  • Reports routinely to Facility Technician-Team Leader and the Director of Community and Volunteer Services
  • Participates in education opportunities 
  • Participates in annual Hospice Health and Safety Update(s)
  • Participates on committees as required
  • Participates in Hospice activities (i.e. Hike, Volunteer appreciation)

Compensation

$18.83 per hour
